What is Actionable Intelligence

What is Actionable Intelligence?

In a nutshell, Actionable Intelligence pertains to the useful data gathered by any information collection agent. In this case, the most popular information collection agent is the Internet. Regarding the data we’re talking about, it is whatever information that’s out there that you can take action with.

This may seem like a relatively new idea to you but everyone has been subconsciously using this type of intelligence for a long time. We just didn’t know what it was called.

Here’s an example for those people who are still in disbelief. Let’s say you want to cook a batch of spaghetti but you want it done the authentic way. So, you whip out your smart phone and go online, right? As soon as you find the information you’re looking for, you save it or download it or stay on that page and use it as a reference while you cook. This is already a clear example of what actionable intelligence is and how people use it.

You needed the info, you used whatever technology was able to gather the info you needed and proceeded to use it. Simple.

Now, what is its significance to society?

Well, a lot actually! Large corporations, security firms, media corporations and every other big corporate entity out there use Actionable Intelligence on a daily basis to operate. They have dedicated groups within their ranks to search out information to drive their business further.

Let’s focus on security for a bit so we can further explain this. As a security agency, the most powerful tool one can use is having a vast amount of knowledge in their arsenal. And you have to have easy access to this information so you can deal with security threats (perceived or not) in real time. This requires having a gadget on you at all times that quickly communicates with your database so you can consult it anytime you need it and get results immediately.

So let’s say you’re handling crowd control and there are some people you want to do a identity verification on. Now, there’s no more need to go to a computer to search for hours through the archives to find out who the person is that you’re talking to. All you need to do is simply take a picture, send it to your main computer database and wait for the info to come back if they are cleared or not. And this operation only takes seconds to complete!

On an even larger scale like in some cities, video and photo surveillance is already being done reducing the need for active personnel to do patrols. By taking full advantage of modern technology you can fully maximize the manpower and resources that you have by only sending people out when it is absolutely necessary! This makes it safe not only for the general public but also for the security and law enforcers you have under your command!

And there you have it! Now go do something about it.
